Eternity rings have been the symbol of ever lasting love and been given for hundreds of years.
Traditionally they are given on an important anniversary or to mark the birth of a first child, but more recently they have also been used as diamond set wedding bands in place of the traditional plain version.

Eternity rings are a promise of love and commitment and when given on the birth of a child, represent the circle life and continuity of the family.

Traditionally, the wedding band is the ring worn closest to the heart on the third finger of the left hand. During the wedding ceremony, the engagement ring is then placed on top of the wedding band making sure it never comes off. Eternity rings are usually worn in the same way, but some people prefer to wear and eternity ring on the same finger of the right hand. There are no hard and fast rules and it is a matter of personal choice for the wearer.

There are two main types of eternity rings. Half eternity rings and full eternity rings. A full eternity ring has a continuous circle of diamonds representing the circle of life and eternal love. The continuous line of stones of a half eternity ring has the same meaning. Some people prefer half eternity rings for comfort and practicality of day to day wear. Bear in mind that a 0.50ct half eternity ring will feature less but bigger diamonds than the equivalent 1.00ct full eternity ring as the latter will have more but smaller diamonds.

The three rings are often worn on the third finger of the left hand. In the past it was believed that a vein ran directly from this finger to the heart. It was named vena amoris, Latin for the vein of love.
